Прощание / прощанье

Which variant is more colloquial and common? There are other words that end in –ие or – ье so the question is general, not only about прощание / прощанье, I guess.

Прощание is 100% correct but you can come across прощанье in dictionaries too. The difference is that прощанье is little bit more formal. I’d say you’d better use прощание in writing and say whatever you like when you speak because no one will notice the difference and both variants are fine after all.

They are the same but note that it doesn’t work like that in all the cases. At least воскресенье (Sunday) and воскресение (resurrection) are different
