How do you understand the difference between вообще and в общем? Could you provide some examples please?

"вообще", "абсолютно", "совсем", "совершенно" - kind of "absolutely", "complete"


"в общем" / "в целом" - kind of "in general", "mostly"

Some examples:
Мне вообще не нравится этот фильм – I don’t like this movie at all (meaning “completely”)
Мнение людей вообще и твое в частности меня не волнует. – I don’t care about what people think in general and you in particular (meaning “in general, generally)
 

В общем, пришли мы только к вечеру – All in all, we came back only in the evening

You’d be surprised how many Russians don’t know themselves how to spell them. It’s something like you're / your in English. But when you say it in conversation, they sound almost the same so don’t worry too much
